A long read about big ideas

Updated: Nov 6, 2019

After a couple of years in an early stage security startup, I'm back in the shop full time. Before I roll up my sleeves and go to work on Maker Tank projects, I'm popping my head up, taking stock of what's going on in the world, and trying to see problems I can help solve as an engineer.

Here's the TL;DR:

  • We broke the planet.

  • We’re running out of potable water.

  • This is China’s century.

  • Democracy is on life support.

  • Identity and how it is managed is broken.

  • Privacy and security are actually “premium” product features.

  • Autonomous robots scare the shit out of me.

  • CRISPR gene editing and corporate capitalism don’t mix.

Thanks to friends and family for early reads of this content, and for conversations over coffee and beer as I thought through these ideas. Stay tuned for more about where I think things are headed...
